Rob Pruitt For Jimmy Choo
On Tuesday night, I was so lucky to be invited along to the preview of the launch of a brand new collection of shoes and bags by American contemporary artist, Rob Pruitt for luxury footwear brand we all know and love as Jimmy Choo. Rob Pruitt’s signature motifs of Pandas and Zebras feature heavily within the collection, as well as splashes of glitter, dashes of lace and copious amounts of Swarovski crystals. As we entered the neon-lit entrance of the boutique on Sloane Street, maraschino-infused champagne and cocktails were served and heavy music played by Jade Williams of We Are Sunday Girl whilst we swooned and cooed over angelic and devilish Panda shaped Miniaudieres, covered with 11,000 hand-applied white, black and pink Swarovski crystals, of which only 14 have been produced. With a value of £9,500, these hard clutch bags, all signed inside by the artist himself, are a huge statement accessory for the die-hard sartorial collector.
Whilst playing 90’s R&B classics, Jade Williams was wearing her very own pair of Rob Pruitt’s version of the classic Jimmy Choo shaped Anouk Pump, retailing at £595. They feature Rob Pruitt’s signature use of dégradé colour in vibrant orange, pink and yellow hues of mirrored leather and overlaid with French lace. The soles of the shoes are finished with a wash of dégradé colours creating an eye catching flash of colour with each step. Definitely a shoe to be tried on before making up your mind.
With cake pops cleverly made to reflect the black, white and neon rainbow that is Rob Pruitts imagination, and black and white canapes served to match, a presentation was made to us all to celebrate on the eve of the launch, of this candy-cute video directed and illustrated by Jo Ratcliffe which was played on a big screen. It features a devil and an angel panda in a platform video game style, emerging from Rob Pruitt’s imagination, semi-playfully fighting over shoes as if at a sample sale. According to Pruitt, “I think there is a certain amount of role-playing fantasy that goes into the ritual of buying shoes and I wanted to play up that idea literally with the Angel and Devil panda; it’s the classic good girl / bad girl play.” Take a look at the video here.

My favourite pieces would have to be the Anouk Pump and the Zebra Acrylic Clutch Bag with Gold Chain Strap, not only for the fact its a bold piece, but also for its amazingly cute interior – have you seen it? I’ve not seen a bag with a lining like that before, thats for sure. The more I look at this collection, the more I fall for it just a little bit more. If I had the choice, I’d definitely invest in these two pieces, but for now, I’ll carry on dreaming.
