In The Sunday Times Style supplement of September 16th (the best part of the whole newspaper), a feature was written about high street brands being pushed to innovate in order to compete called ‘Great Expectations’. The Sunday Times stylish Style superstar team (who all look awesome, by the way and wasn’t that a mouthful) are pictured wearing high street outfits, looking, to the untrained eye, like they’re dressed in high end designer luxe. In a nutshell, the article explains how we’re all strapped for cash, still want to look good, and high street manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to capture the imagination of the general public by reinventing themselves, pushing to be more innovative. That’s not to say they should be rip-off merchants. Its one thing being inspired and influenced, its another thing to completely rip off someone elses imagination and innovation. As Laura Weir writes ‘Successful high street shopping is about knowing who does what best. If you’re tall and skinny, head to Zara….’and so on. We are so fortunate to have such amazing clothes on our high streets, most of which are affordable, on trend and good quality. Being on trend doesn’t necessarily have to mean you can’t wear the same pieces over and over. Pick wisely and you’ll be wearing them in years to come.
