Banana Republic – Capsule Collection Perfection

If you don’t know Banana Republic, they’re a sister company to Gap. Their items are slightly higher priced and therefore slightly better quality (I think so). Their range of clothing is primarily preppy and workwear, with some casual and dressy items making up a small percentage of their collection. I would describe their clothes as capsule staples, items you can wear with lots of other things, turning one look into another just by swapping one item, but always classic items which should last for years. They are definitely the first place I turn to when looking for staples such as a white shirt, or a blazer. You can read more about Banana Republic and their story here.

After purchasing my Trench Coat from Banana Republic back in January and wearing it most days since I totally love it, I’ve been on the look out for some more pieces from them, so thought I would share a few of my current favourites with you here. I don’t think the images do their garments justice, if I’m totally honest and the styling can look a little over-preppy, however if you look at the items in isolation, imagining them with something you already have in your wardrobe, the preppiness is forgotten instantly. Not that there’s anything wrong with the preppy look, just not all the time.

Out of this selection, I love the stripy maxi dress the most. This could be worn throughout spring with a blazer, or a chunky slouchy jumper over the top, a big turquoise or mustard statement necklace and ballet pumps, right through to summer, with a big silk scarf or a feather-light blousy cardigan as a sheer cover-up and tan or gold sandals. I most definitely would invest in this comfy spring/summer dress!
