Chanel SS12 Ad Campaign

Back in October last year, during Paris Fashion Week, Karl Lagerfeld unveiled his Spring Summer Ready-To-Wear 2012 collection at the Grand Palais in Paris. The theme of the show was an underwater spectacle….dreamy, ethereal, magical….history-making Chanel. Models with scraped back wet-look hair in buns had pearls woven into their locks, they carried oversized pearlescent shells and displayed pearl-studded spines from within their open-back shimmering dresses.

Then came the advertising campaign. Recently launched, the photos were taken by the endlessly talented Karl Lagerfeld. Models Saskia De Brauw and Joan Smalls feature as semi-androgynous gymnasts in striking yet simple black and white shots. The geometric images have strong 1920’s influences, which epitomise the original Chanel name and brand and, due to their absence of adornment, its likely Coco Chanel herself would have shared this same vision.
